YSDA WORKS WITH CEENEL TO BETTER VULNERABLE CHILDREN’S LIVING CONDITIONS

After the first workshop on the fabrication of candies and various sales strategies with the teenagers of the Dschang central prison, the team members of Young Social Development Actors (YSDA) have been solicited for a similar action by Mrs. ZANKEU MARTHE (Mama CEENEL’s ) the founder and director of CEENEL(Centre d’Education des Enfants Necessiteux de Leffé). It is a social primary school of Leffé in Bafou, located at about 07 km from Dschang in the West region of Cameroon. According to her, the school has been created to ease access to school for orphans and other needy children of that locality, and those from neighboring villages. Unfortunately, the minimum amount which is been asked to the family members of these children as school fees in order to motivate the teachers and maintain this school functioning is not being paid, making it difficult to properly run the school following national standards. Most of the children do not benefit from good quality education because of lack of books and other scholar kits. Most of them start and finish a year without paying their fees. The workshop organized by YSDA on Friday 15th may 2015, after Mama CEENEL’s demand aimed at equipping the children with skills and knowledge on entrepreneurship. It was done into two phases, including the theoretical training on how build a business idea and start a small enterprise and a practical phase on the fabrication of Candies.

In fact, this workshop had various purposes:

  • Equip the children with entrepreneurial skills
  • Give them knowledge on how to use local products to produce candies
  • Work in partnership with children to increase parent’s awareness on the quality of education they must provide to their children.
  • Work in partnership with teachers and the director to increase community sensitization

At the end of the workshop every participant was satisfied and happy. The children took the engagement to invite their parent and family and convince them to attend the meeting that will take place at the end of this month, involving these parents, the teachers and the members and education advocates from YSDA. These advocacy meeting is aimed at mobilizing and sensitizing the entire Leffé community for actions in favor of access to quality education for all and for vulnerable children in particular.
